Implant Drilling Sequences
Neodent GM & Straumann

Precise osteotomy preparation is the foundation of primary stability. Use this visual reference at chairside to select the correct drill sequence by system and diameter.

Neodent Helix GM — General Protocol

  • Speed: 800–1200 RPM with copious external and internal irrigation throughout
  • For D3/D4 bone: stop one drill size before the final diameter (underpreparation technique). This compresses rather than cuts the bone.
  • Depth stops: always use the depth stopper calibrated to the desired implant length before drilling
  • Countersink (cortical drill): use only in dense D1 cortical bone to avoid excessive torque on insertion
  • After drilling: irrigate the osteotomy thoroughly before implant placement
D3–D4 Bone Tip: In soft bone, do not use the final profile drill. The self-tapping Helix threads will compress the trabecular bone, increasing bone-implant contact and primary stability. Acqua surface is strongly recommended for immediate loading in compromised bone density.

Neodent Drive GM
Drilling Sequence

Fully self-tapping design with progressive thread pitch. Engineered for high initial stability in all bone types. Undersized osteotomy is standard protocol — do not use profile drill as final step.

Neodent Drive GM — General Protocol

  • Drive GM is fully self-tapping — the undersized osteotomy is intentional and mandatory for primary stability
  • Speed: 800–1000 RPM. Reduce to 600 RPM in D1 dense cortical bone
  • In D4 bone: stop two drill sizes short and allow the implant threads to fully engage bone
  • Do NOT use the profile/countersink drill — this removes the bone that the Drive threads need for engagement
  • Insertion torque regularly exceeds 60 Ncm in D2 bone with this protocol
Straumann — CrossFit Connection

Straumann BLT
Drilling Sequence

Bone Level Tapered implant with tapered body and SLA or SLActive surface. CrossFit internal connection. Suitable for standard and immediate protocols in D1–D3 bone. Speed: 800 RPM with irrigation.

Straumann BLT — General Protocol

  • Speed: 800 RPM maximum with copious irrigation (external + internal where available)
  • Always use the Straumann-specific BLT drill as the final step — it creates the tapered profile matching the implant body
  • Do not use non-Straumann drills for the final step as the tapered angle will not match
  • SLActive surface: place within 15 minutes of removing from solution for optimal surface activity
  • Loxim driver required for placement — use with torque-controlled handpiece or manual ratchet
Straumann — BLX System

Straumann BLX
Drilling Sequence

Fully self-tapping implant with V-shape thread design and tapered body. Designed for immediate protocols. Undersized osteotomy is standard — no final profiler required. The BLX engages and compresses bone for maximum ISQ values.

Straumann BLX — General Protocol

  • BLX is fully self-tapping — undersized osteotomy preparation is standard and required for primary stability
  • Speed: 800 RPM maximum. The self-tapping tip will naturally cut during insertion — no extra hand force needed
  • In dense D1 bone: a short tap or one extra drill step may be required to prevent overtorque during insertion
  • Typical ISQ values: 65–80 in D2 bone with undersized protocol — ideal for immediate loading
  • SLActive surface: place within 15 minutes of removing from packaging for peak surface activity
BLX Immediate Loading: The BLX is designed for immediate protocols. With insertion torque ≥40 Ncm and ISQ ≥70, immediate single-tooth loading is supported per Straumann IFU. Always confirm with resonance frequency analysis (RFA) before loading.
