SLActive® · Roxolid® · Immediate Placement
The BLX is Straumann's flagship implant for immediate placement and loading protocols. Its unique geometry — a cylindrical coronal section transitioning to a tapered apex — delivers exceptional primary stability across all bone types, making same-day tooth replacement a consistent, predictable clinical outcome. Part of the iExcel™ next-generation system.
The BLX is a core component of Straumann's iExcel™ next-generation implant portfolio, launched in 2025. iExcel represents a comprehensive rethinking of implant design, prosthetic workflow, and digital integration — engineered for efficiency, predictability, and expanded indications including immediate placement in fresh extraction sockets and immediate loading protocols across all bone quality classifications.
The hydrophilic SLActive® surface — sandblasted large grit + acid-etched, stored in isotonic saline — achieves a contact angle of <5°. Protein adsorption begins within seconds of implant placement, accelerating cell attachment and bone apposition. Osseointegration is achieved in 3–4 weeks versus 6–8 weeks with conventional SLA®, enabling earlier prosthetic loading and shorter overall treatment timelines.
Roxolid® titanium-zirconium alloy delivers 15% greater strength than Grade 4 pure titanium, with identical biocompatibility profiles. For the BLX, this matters at all diameters — especially at Ø 3.5–3.75 mm where the implant must withstand immediate loading forces without fatigue risk. The alloy's superior mechanical properties also support longer spans and more demanding prosthetic configurations in full-arch rehabilitation.
The BLX was purpose-built for the most demanding immediate placement and loading scenarios in modern implantology.
The tapered apex and self-cutting thread design deliver high insertion torque values even in post-extraction sites with irregular bone walls — the clinical foundation for same-day provisionalization protocols.
A cylindrical coronal body engages the cortical bone maximally, while the tapered apex captures apical bone beyond the socket, creating a bicortical anchoring effect that minimizes micromotion during healing.
All BLX diameters use the RC (Regular CrossFit) connection, simplifying inventory and providing the full breadth of Straumann prosthetic options — from Variobase® XC to custom CAD/CAM abutments — across the entire diameter range.
From Ø 3.5 mm narrow to Ø 6.5 mm wide body, the BLX covers every site from a mandibular incisor to a maxillary first molar — including wide-body options for immediate molar replacement with native bone engagement.
